Would Hulk Hogan have ever survived the NWA?

Post  womenwrestlerfan on Sun Sep 07, 2008 12:31 am

Hey guys, now as you may or may not have known

Terry Bollea better known as Hulk Hogan has been in the Wrestling Business since 1978

and now, he is no longer w/the Wrestling Business after 30 years

Hogan has worked for the WWWF, AWA, WWF, WCW, XWF and the WWE

But before working for promoters like Vince McMahon, Sr., Vince McMahon, Jr., Verne Gagne, Ted Turner and Eric Bischoff

Hulk Hogan started out with the oldest and arguably the greatest Wrestling Organization in the World

The NWA-National Wrestling Alliance

That's right, Hulk Hogan worked for the NWA and won the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship and then he went to Japan and won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, but he wrestled under the name Sterling Golden

Now, Hulk Hogan went to the WWE and the rest was history

He won the WWE Heavyweight Championship 6 times and then he went to WCW and won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship 6 times as well, but when he came back to the WWE, not only did he win his 6th WWE Heavyweight Championship, he also won his 1st and only World Tag Team Championship in his career when he and Edge won the WWE World Tag Team Championship on the 4th of July 2002 on SD! when they def. Billy Gunn (now known as Kip James) and Chuck Palumbo.

But during his time in the WWE and WCW, he has been given complete control over his character which caused alot of people as well as the fans to complain and some of us including myself are not Hulk Hogan Fans.

But let me ask you all this, suppose if Hulk Hogan didn't go to the WWE, what if he was still in the NWA as well as Jim Crockett Promotions?

Would Hulk Hogan have ever survived the NWA or would he have just been another mid-carder or another egomaniac?

and also, would he have been the NWA World Heavyweight Champion or another title like the U.S. Heavyweight Title, the Television Heavyweight Title and would have have put over new talent or not?

That's the Question!

Please share your thoughts on all of this.

Ok, first of all, let me clarify something about his world title resume. All of us know that Hogan defeated Nick Bockwinkle for the AWA title twice but was strip of the title due to some technicality and those reigns were never acknowledged as official reigns before the AWA filled for bankcrupcy. However Dale Gagne, who bought the AWA name and Logos, and brought back the AWA did something about that. It was stated in the AWA website, about 3 years ago that Hogan's two AWA title wins, were now recognized as legit title reigns because he had in fact defeated Nick Bockwinkle on both occasion only to be stripped of the belt a few days later. So now that makes Hogan a 2 times AWA world champion, 1 time and the first ever IWGP world champion in japan, 6 times WWE world champion and a 6 times WCW world champion, making him a 14 times world champion. And if we count the IWGP title witch to many had world title status, that would make hogan a 15 times world heavyweight champion.

To your main question (Would hogan had survived in the NWA), i say yes he would have survived. What makes me say that is that if Lex Luger have been able to survive in the NWA like he did with his limited talent, Hogan would have done it too. Would he have won the NWA title? Yes he would have won it, but would have probably not been world champion as many times as he did. would he have had creative controll over his character? Well probaly. After all Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair had creative control over their in ring characters in the NWA during the Jim Crocket era in large part because of thair status as head bookers of that promotion. The only thing that was different, is that Flair and Rhodes were putting young talents over. They putted guys like Luger, Nikita Koloff, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, Sam Houston and Sting over just to name a few.

In retrospect, Hogan would have won as many titles as Lex Luger did, and probably would have had even better succes than Luger in the NWA. But there's one thing for sure, one way or another, Hogan would have ended up in the WWF/E one way or another to add another feather in his cap just like Flair did in 1991 when he joined the WWF.
